As the fiscal year comes to a close, we here at NAMI Pomona Valley are looking forward to the new year and all of the promise that it brings. For the last 19 years our organization has provided critical supportive mental health services to the Pomona Valley community in the form of free classes, support groups, school presentations, helpline and more. C.A.R.E Court

The Community Assistance, Recovery & Empowerment court, or C.A.R.E Court is a proposed community-based system that directly supports persons in crisis with a time-structured care plan and goals of stabilization, self-sufficiency and even housing support. The idea behind C.A.R.E. court is to help vulnerable persons experiencing severe mental illness or substance abuse disorders from falling through the cracks, providing them with the tools and dedicated support that could prevent homelessness, incarceration, or other restrictive conservatorship interventions. Suffering from severe mental illnesses or supporting those who do can often feel helpless, like you’re in this fight alone. Not only do we need support on the ground to help us through difficult episodes, but we really could use a culturally competent and condition-aware system that will actually help us. The Agua Caliente Clippers of Ontario is not only a local professional basketball team but also an active fixture in the community. The team regularly recognizes residents doing amazing things and honors them at a home game as “Hometown Heroes.” Our very own Kyoni Cummings has been recognized by the Clippers! On top of that they even have a nonprofit night where part of the ticket proceeds go to support local nonprofits. NAMI Walks Los Angeles County, a United Day of Hope was May 21st! NAMIWalks is a once-a-year fund and awareness raising opportunity in the form of a 5k walk and community celebration.  The 2022 Walk took place at Grand Park in Los Angeles and served as largest mental health walk in the greater Los Angeles area.
